Horizons Foundation

The Easter Seals UCP Horizons Foundation was started by former Board President of United Cerebral Palsy of North Carolina, Mort Congleton, in May 2000. After the merger of UCP North Carolina and Easter Seals North Carolina, the foundation was renamed The Easter Seals UCP Horizons Foundation.

The mission of the foundation is to ensure adequate long-term funding for the high quality programs and services that Easter Seals UCP provides to children and adults with disabilities in North Carolina. The Easter Seals UCP Horizons Foundation provides individuals, corporations and foundations with a wonderful vehicle through which they can make gifts that will help sustain Easter Seals UCP programs and services long into the future. These gifts may include cash, checks, stocks, bequests, Charitable Gift Annuities, and charitable trusts.  Learn more about the Horizons Foundation from our brochure.

The Foundation is comprised of the General Fund and two restricted funds; the Carli Snell Fund and The Col. W.W. Stevens & Emily Inscoe Stevens Endowment. Each year the Easter Seals UCP Horizons Foundation Board can make interest income distributions of up to 5% from each of the named funds and the General Fund.

Easter Seals UCP has used these funds to partner with the Developmental Disabilities Training Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill. The Developmental Disabilities Training Institute has had a long history of collaboration with ESUCP to promote training of all levels of staff in various person-centered approaches with an emphasis on providing training on The Council of Quality and Leadership's Personal Outcome Measure.

Carli Snell Fund

This fund was established by the Raleigh law firm of Kirby and Holt in honor of Carli Snell, who was born with cerebral palsy. Distributions from this fund are to provide children living outside Greater Mecklenburg County with early intervention (center without walls) services and therapies for unfunded or under-funded services.

The Col. W.W. Stevens & Emily Inscoe Stevens Endowment

This was funded with a bequest and was established to help fund clinical and applied research. These funds can be applied to educational materials, curriculum development or determining what therapies work best as long as follow-through is conducted in the provision of services.

Gifts to the Foundation can be either restricted or unrestricted
