TREK Bicycle of Raleigh Partners with Easter Seals UCP to Make One Family’s Dream a Reality
Raleigh, NC – TREK Bicycle of Raleigh has partnered with Ride Without Limits, a signature event of Easter Seals UCP, since its inception three years ago. This year, TREK went above and beyond with their generosity.
Over the past three years, Team Tatem has participated in Ride Without Limits in honor of Tatem Diuguid, a beautiful 8 year old who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth. The Team consists of Tatem’s grandfather, Maurice, uncle, Austin and joining in last year, Mark Holtzinger, from WA. Together, they have ridden hundreds of miles and raised more than $76,000 for Easter Seals UCP. Each year, there has been one important piece missing from Team Tatem – Tatem’s dad, Matt Miller. Matt is a Captain and Chaplain with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and currently deployed in Iraq. Each year, CPT Miller’s service has prevented him from being part of this event and supporting his daughter and an organization that means so much to their family.
This year, CPT Miller’s deployment is expected to end in August but returning home less than a month before the event would not give him enough time to train. On March 16th, when CPT. Miller arrived home for leave, TREK Bicycle presented him with a brand new TREK road bike and stationary trainer to take back to Iraq with him so that he can join his family in riding for Tatem.
“I can not express to you our level of appreciation and excitement about the donation that has been made to our family! Matt, having the honor of riding for his daughter... with Easter Seals UCP, and Trek making that happen. This ride, this cause is something that is very important to Team Tatem, and we were heart broken, that yet another year, Matt was going to be deployed and unable to train. You have given us so much to smile about and look forward to! Not only an amazing homecoming from another year in Iraq, but a goal that includes our entire family,” stated Brooke Miller, Tatem’s mother.
Due to TREK’s generosity, CPT Miller will be able to join Team Tatem in the 4th Annual Ride Without Limits to take place on September 18th and 19th, making this family’s dream come true. TREK’s gift has also inspired other soldiers to join in the cause. LT Bryan Jonas and LT Richard Ingram are patiently awaiting the return home to ride alongside Team Tatem. Ingram is a wounded warrior from a tour to Iraq and has his spirits high in anticipation of the Ride.
Ride Without Limits is a two-day, up to 200 mile cycling event to raise much needed funds and awareness for United Cerebral Palsy. In its first three years, more than $425,000 has been raised to provide services and support to help individuals living with disabilities to live a full life with unlimited potential.
