Lakisa’s Story

Easter Seals UCP

Posted by Easter Seals UCP 2/8/10 in Our Scene

Lakisa is funny, compassionate and kind.  It is not uncommon to find her giving big hugs, patting someone on the back who she thinks is sad, or blowing kisses as she waves goodbye.

Lakisa was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was one year old. At that time, her primary mobility was rolling. Through the love and support of her family and the staff at the Easter Seals UCP Charlie Gaddy Children's Center, she has made remarkable advancements in her ability to communicate, perform many self-help activities, and most recently, walk. With each milestone, Lakisa is able to establish new goals, gain independence and feel protected as she discovers a world that is generally not designed for her.

Lakisa is only three, but her message to everyone is "Set your personal goals high and don't give up until you achieve them."

Hi Lakisa, You are a blessing to me. I can testify to what you said about never giving up on your goals, until you have achieved
suceeded them. As the saying goes: A winner never quit and A quitter never wins.
