Making Employment A New Success

General Info

The MEANS program provides counseling that people with disabilities can access to help them understand their Social Security, Medicaid benefit, and work incentive options so they can pursue self-sufficiency.

Professional Info

The MEANS Project of Easter Seals UCP is one of four North Carolina WIPA (Work Incentives Planning & Assistance) Projects funded by the Social Security Administration to provide information, advisement, and benefits management support to individuals, ages 14 to 65, who receive SSI and/or SSDI and who are interested in pursuing employment. Four nationally certified Community Work Incentives Coordinators (CWICs) are responsible for service delivery across 35 counties in north-central and eastern North Carolina.

Since 2001, MEANS staff have worked with hundreds of individuals offering guidance in understanding the positive impact of work incentives on the achievement of self-sufficiency through employment.
